Right brain, you snooze, you lose

IQ got you in the door, EQ will keep you there

Chances are your right brain has been snoozing at work for years.
Let’s wake up Sleeping Beauty 😴

We’ve got two sides to our brains.

To put it simply: the left side is logical, analytical, and structured.
And then there’s the right side: emotional, intuitive, and relational.

For most of us, especially if you’re from my generation, we’ve spent years training that left brain.

From kindergarten on, it’s all about logic, learning, and structure.

School? Left brain.
Further education? Left brain.
Your first job? Left brain.

You’ve built a career by mastering all of that, deadlines, planning, execution.
You deliver.

Then one day, your manager pulls you aside and says, “You’re great. You deliver. Now, here’s a team. Make them deliver. Congratulations.”

And just like that you've crossed over into management often without training or any clue on how to lead people.

It’s no longer about your logical self you’ve worked so hard to build with your left brain.

Now, you need that snoozing, underused right hemisphere.
Tap into empathy and the other "mushy stuff" you always sniffed at.

How did I deal with it?
Went straight into micromanagement mode.

Pair that with poor delegation skills, a lack of trust in results that weren’t mine, and the constant urge to have my fingers in every pie...

In time you realise that it’s not about controlling the game anymore; it’s about guiding the players.

That’s a huge shift.

But emotional intelligence can be learned, and it starts with self-awareness and the courage to admit that it’s not as easy as it looks.

Ask for training. Ask for mentorship. Ask for help.

Tapping into your emotional right brain and admitting that you're lost sometimes is a sign of strength, not weakness.

And emotional intelligence will not only make you a better leader, it’s essential for building relationships and understanding how to communicate effectively in any context.

At Skill Boxx we’re here to support you - whether you’re looking to connect with your team or communicate with your stakeholders.

Let's brainstorm.
