When your personality does a complete 180

Once red energy, always red energy?
Yeah, no.

Our behavioural preferences show up in their rawest form when we’re unfiltered. Under pressure.

But stress can also flip our usual style on its head.

I learned that first-hand when training to become an Insights facilitator.
Picture this: accreditation training, two colleagues - let’s call them Chris and Nev - and me.

The setting: a massive traffic jam on the way back to the airport.

At first, it was all laughs.
Then the mood began to sour.

🟡 Nev, usually the chatty optimist, turned quiet and serious, tracking flights and checking alternatives.

🔴 Me? Normally direct and action-driven sulked in the back seat, passively resigned to our fate, tossing out unhelpful commentary.

🟢 Chris, gentle, people-focused Chris, snapped: "Shut up. I’m driving."

Did we make our flight? No matter.

As freshly minted Insights facilitators, we had just experienced how our personalities had done a full 180 under stress.

We weren’t acting out of character.
We were merely showing different facets of our character.

Personality styles aren’t clear-cut.
Nobody is always analytical, always direct, always gentle, or always a chatterbox.

People are not red, green, blue, or yellow.
Yes, we have preferences, but we adjust constantly.

With awareness, we can flex deliberately to smooth and strengthen relationships, both personal and professional.

Insights Discovery helps you see these patterns in yourself and others.
A journey that, for me, never stops being fascinating.

Fascinated? Let’s chat.
